When two of the largest game publishers, Activision and Blizzard merged, the new company became the second largest software company in the world. Blizzard, makers of the money vacuum known as World of Warcraft were elated to join forces with Activision, publishers of the currency shoveling game called Guitar Hero. The creative forces behind the new juggernaut company renamed it to the catchy title of 'ActivisionBlizzard'. To celebrate the union, the new company immediatly fired over 150 employees.

Sam Marshall, VP of New Development  explained the mass firings, “We had a tough decision to make. It was either pay the bonuses to the executives, or continue employing 150 people who do nothing but sit in front of computers making video games all day. What am I supposed to do, NOT give myself a raise? I had to make a lot of personal sacrifices to make this deal happen. For example, it wasn’t uncommon for me to spend up to 3 hours on the golf course thinking about how I was going to hide all my new Blizzard money from my wife."

The former employees were not sent off empty handed though, Marshall told us, “We gave them all a handsome severance packages, 10% off any Guitar Hero downloadable song of their choice(not inluding songs by Americian or British artists).”
