In an early morning press conference, Electronic Arts CEO Larry Probst announced that EA's long standing contract with Satan to remain the top third party game publisher had expired on 7/7/2007. Probst said "Unfortunately we were unable to come to an agreement with the Lord of Darkness to get an extension on the contract. He's really strict about that sort of thing. When we realized our deal with Lucifer was almost over, we begged and pleaded to add another few years. We offered him the first born sons of our game testers, sent gift baskets filled with bottles of orphan's tears, we even released 'The Urbz' on the Ps2 to drive more people to suicide. But he wouldn't budge."
For the past 4 years, EA has enjoyed unrivaled success at the top of the industry. 'We havent released a new game since 2004. As soon as we handed over a controlling interest in our souls to Beelzebub, all we had to do was change the year in the title and we'd get record sales.' explained Roger Glindow, producer of EA's Extreme Hacky Sack 2008.
Rumors point to Activision as the new contract holder with the Prince of Darkness. The company recently overtook EA as the #1 publisher solely on the strength of a game where people play air guitar to cover versions of 80's songs. In response to the rumors, Activision spokesperson Melvin Deglass stated 'We have no comment on whether we have signed such a contract. But on an unrelated note, we are announcing that Guitar Hero 4:Judas Priest edition will ship on October 31st."
