Rockstar Games' latest release of Manhunt 2 has quickly become the top selling game with teens 13-16 and prison inmates 34-45. The game depicts gruesome murders using a variety of everyday items, and though it has been condemened by many social groups, that has done little to discourage its biggest fans.
'I never had so much fun bashing someones head in with an iron' remarked Darryl Egghert, 14, of Shoreline Middleschool. His sentiments were echoed by others in his peer group. 'They captured the feeling of slicing a man's throats with a rusty shiv perfectly' was the response from Craig Holden, also 14 from Shoreline MiddleSchool. Another fan of the game remarked 'Although the controls were a little frantic, I felt the social commentary more than made up for it's flaws' said John 'BabyKiller' Jones, a mass murderer serving 300 years in a maximum security prison with a tattoo of a pentagram on his forehead. When we asked 'Babykiller Jones' why he enjoyed playing Manhunt 2, he apologetically said 'Manhunt 2? I thought you were asking about Mario Galaxy. Manhunt is way too violent for my tastes. What do I look like, some kind of psycho?'
Rockstar is extremely pleased with the game's reception. 'We built the game for the hardcore murderer market. We saw a potential there and we knew we could cater to those consumers who were already serving 25 to life. But the Middle School market was a happy bonus. We had no idea kids would gravitate to the game in such large numbers. I mean, when we cut out the most of the rape and mutilation scenes, we figured that today's teenagers wouldn't give Manhunt 2 the time of day. Lucky for us, Manhunt 2 still has enough brutal violence to appeal to the average student.
ManHunt 2 is currently available for the Nintendo Wii at a price of $39.99 at major retailers or 100 cigarettes from C Block (ask for Jimmy) .
